The Anthropos Doctoral School of the Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Slavic Studies invite applications for two PhD positions under the NCN Sonata-BIS HS2 grant “Linguistic diversity in Poland: collateral languages, language-oriented activities and conceptualization of collective identity” (no. 2020/38/E/HS2/00006, project leader Prof. Nicole Dołowy-Rybińska).
Job title: PhD student
Scope of work:
- participation in meetings and seminars of the research team,
- disseminating ethnolinguistic vitality questionnaires in 5 areas (in collaboration with the other PhD student and under the supervision of the research team members)
- conducting ethnolinguistic vitality quantitative fieldwork (semi-structured interviews, participant observations which will be supervised by the team),
- carrying-out research in at least one of the research fields (Kashubia, Silesia, Masuria, Podlachia, Podhale),
- completing PhD thesis in four years
- dissemination of the research results (conferences, publications, popular scientific events).
Requirements:
- MA degree in humanities or social sciences,
- interest in minority languages and sociolinguistics,
- experience in fieldwork research,
- excellent knowledge of the Polish language (min. C1) and English (min. B2),
- strong motivation for scientific work and for the preparation of a doctoral dissertation,
- readiness to work in a team.
Employment conditions under the grant:
Starting date: 1 October 2021
Form of employment: scholarship
The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the rules for granting scholarships in the regulations of research projects financed by the National Science Centre (NCN), introduced by the Resolution of the NCN Council no. 25/2019 of 14th March 2019.
Duration of the scholarship: 48 months
Scholarship amount: 4000 zł

1) completed application for admission to the School,
2) proposed doctoral project thematically related to “Linguistic diversity in Poland” project,
2) curriculum vitae with a list of publications and other scientific achievements,
3) contact details of one researcher willing to act as referee on behalf of the candidate
4) a copy of a university master diploma, or: – a certificate from your institution confirming completion of a master’s degree (in the case of foreigners – an equivalent document), or: -a certificate of admission to defense, which will be held before October 1, 2021, or: -certificate of implementation of the “Diamond Grant”
5) (if possible:) copy of a certificate confirming knowledge of English at B2 level or higher.
