Academic Writing in English
as part of the NextGenPhDs – Innovations NAWA STER project

This semester-long course is specifically designed to transform your scholarly prose, helping you write clear, argumentative, and meticulously organized English for publication and debate. The course is offered to Second Year doctoral students at Anthropos.
This course focuses on developing the essential tools for high-level academic discourse:
- Argumentative Clarity: We will work intensively on defining, comparing, and effectively differentiating complex lines of thinking, ensuring your justifications are always backed by compelling evidence.
- Critical Engagement: You will develop the skills to actively identify and critique logical arguments and existing academic discourse within your field.
- Making Your Contribution: By the end of the course, you will possess the refined writing skills necessary to confidently enter into broad academic debates with your own unique contributions and clearly articulate where your research stands.
The course is divided into five focused units covering key aspects of academic prose. Class time will be dynamic, consisting of a mix of lectures and interactive discussion periods designed to apply concepts immediately to your own writing.
