The Anthropos Doctoral School of the Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences invite applications for two PhD positions under the NCN OPUS-18 grant “Secularization of the West: Tacitism from the 16th to the 18th century” (no. 2019/35/B /HS1/04039, project leader: Dr Jan Waszink)
Job title: PhD student
Scope of work:
– research in the field of intellectual history, in an international research environment, on the history of Tacitism in either England (PhD candidate 1) or Spain (PhD candidate 2), in line with the project’s assumptions;
– writing min. 1-2 articles on the above-mentioned subject, and continuation of the research to a doctoral dissertation, to be completed within four years;
– cooperation in the preparation of other publications and forms of disseminating the project results.
Requirements:
– excellent knowledge of the English language (knowledge of Spanish and / or Latin is an advantage).
– interest in the history of culture or intellectual history, or the history of religion from the early modern era;
– strong motivation for scientific work and for the preparation of a doctoral dissertation.
– readiness to work in a team, and to contribute towards the organization of conferences and workshops.
– readiness for foreign travel for conference participation and archival research within the scope of the project (costs to be covered by the project)
Employment conditions under the grant:
Form of employment: scholarship
Scholarship amount: 2300 zł during the first two years, ca. 3600 zł during two consecutive years
Duration of the scholarship: 4 years
Starting date: 1 January 2021

1) completed application for admission to the School stating the project title: “Secularization of the West: Tacitism from the 16th to the 18th century”.
– ON FORM 1, part 3, ‘Project Description’ should not be completed and should be left blank
2) curriculum vitae with a list of publications and other scientific achievements,
3) personal questionnaire
4) contact details of one senior researcher willing to act as referee on behalf of the candidate
5) a copy of a university master diploma, or: – a certificate from your institution confirming completion of a master’s degree (in the case of foreigners – an equivalent document), or: -a certificate of admission to defense, which will be held before October 1, 2020, or: -certificate of implementation of the “Diamond Grant”
6) (if possible:) copy of a certificate confirming knowledge of English at B2 level or higher;
- B) in separate files:
1) a passport style photograph of the candidate
2) a copy of the master’s thesis or its equivalent (in electronic form, preferably PDF)
